Russian Aleksei Bugaev ensured he left the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Alpine Skiing World Cup with two gold medals after taking giant slalom victory in Tarvisio today.

The 18-year-old standing skier, a double Paralympic champion on home snow at Sochi 2014, won the slalom race in the Italian resort yesterday and backed that up today with a winning combined time of 1min 43.56 sec.

His first run saw him clock the fastest descent of the day in 49.44sec and, although he slowed to 53.12 second time around, it was still enough for overall victory.

Austria’s Markus Salcher took silver and was just 0.32 seconds behind Bugaev, with Switzerland’s Thomas Pfyl clinching bronze with a time of 1:43.64.

Host country Italy had something to cheer as Giacomo Bertagnolli, with guide Fabrizio Casal, won the men’s giant slalom visually impaired, posting a time of 1:42.33.

Russia’s Valerii Redkozubov and guide Evgeny Geroev came second in 1:44.34 with the Czech Republic’s Patrik Hetmer, along with guide Miroslav Macala, taking third in 1:47.80.

In the men's sitting giant slalom, American Tyler Walker was in the lead after the fastest opening run of 49.93, but was overhauled by Japan's Taiki Morii, who eventually won with a combined overall total of 1:43.68.

Tyler had to settle for silver with Roman Rabl of Austria taking third.

In women's competition, France's Marie Bochet took the standing giant slalom honours in a time of 1:48.60, a massive 10 seconds faster than American silver medallist Stephanie Jallen.

Slovakia's Petra Smarzova took the bronze medal in 1:50.95.

In the visually impaired giant-slalom, US skier Staci Mannella added to her slalom win yesterday with guide Sadie de Baun in a time of 2:05.87.

Belgium followed with a two-three finish from Eleonor Sana, with guide Chloe Sana coming second in 2:09.40.

Third place went to Marie-Morgane Dessart with guide Antoine Marine Francois in 2:29.51.

The women's sitting title went to Germany's five-time Paralympic champion Anna Schaffelhuber, who produced the two quickest runs on her way to a time of 1:53.02.

Japan’s Momoka Muraoka finished second in 1:56.12 and the USA’s Laurie Stephens took third in 1:57.59.

The World Cup will is due to continue in St Moritz in Switzerland on Friday (January 22).
