It represents the first time the BPA has initiated such a campaign, which allows the British public to donate directly to the organisation and to take part in dedicated “Supercharge” fan activity.

A campaign film for the scheme has also been produced, which stars a number of Britain’s top Para-athletes including Paralympic T44 100 metres gold medallist Jonnie Peacock, double Paralympic sprint silver medallist Libby Clegg and powerlifting world champion Ali Jawad.

Wheelchair tennis star Jordanne Whiley and Paralympic table tennis silver medallist Will Bayley have also got involved in the promotional video.

The “Supercharge ParalympicsGB” initiative has been launched to help athletes on their road to several key events, including Rio 2016, the Winter Paralympic Games in Pyeongchang in 2018 and Tokyo 2020.

“We want to leave no stone unturned in our efforts to win medals and make the nation proud in Rio and beyond,” BPA chief executive Tim Hollingsworth said.

“That means getting the public and our partners involved to help to supercharge the team to make the ParalympicsGB team as successful and inspiring to others as possible.

“We have incredible support already from the National Lottery and UK Sport, but the crucial final part of the journey to Rio requires as much funding as possible to ensure the team are ready for success. 

“That is why we are launching this campaign and asking the public for its support.

“How far all our athletes go depends on you!”

The “Supercharge ParalympicsGB” initiative also has the backing of a number of the BPA’s partners such as BT Group, Deloitte and EDF Energy.

Eleven-times athletics Paralympic champion and BPA Patron Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson has been named as one of four high-profile ambassadors of the scheme, along with TV presenter Claire Balding, actor and comedian Eddie Izzard and Alex Brooker, who has co-presented the Last Leg TV programme on Channel 4 since London 2012.

“The Rio 2016 Paralympic Games will be the toughest, most competitive Games yet and ParalympicsGB will need to be the best it’s ever been to win the medals the nation craves,” Baroness Tanni said.

“The team needs as much support and preparation as possible in the final crucial months of preparation to win those medals and ensure Britain continues to be a leading force in Paralympic sport over the next decade.

“I am delighted to be part of this campaign to ask the British public to give its support.”
