The International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF) Europe has announced it has opened the bidding processes for a series of their events scheduled to take place this year.

The IWBF Europe Competition Commission is calling for bidders for the men’s under-22, women’s under-25 and women Division B competitions from eligible national organisations.

The budget for the men’s under-22 event is usually between €400,000 (£294,000/$433,000) to €500,000 (£368,000/$541,000).

Those interested must complete the IWBF Europe bid document and will be required to pay a deposit of €5,000 (£3,680/$5,408) if they choose to bid.

The sum will be returned to the respective national governing body if they are not selected for a site review visit.

If they opt, however, to withdraw prior to the decision on which bidders have been chosen for a site review or if they choose to decline the visit, the IWBF Europe will retain an administration fee of €500 (£368/$541).

Once the national organisation assigns a date for a site visit and the bidder accepts, the IWBF keep hold of the money until after the championships are held.

The last edition of the men’s Under-22 Wheelchair Basketball European Championship was held in Zaragoza, Spain, in 2014 and was won by Britain.

The Netherlands triumphed at the women’s under-25 event in Hannover, Germany, also staged in 2014.

Countries who may be keen on submitting a bid are invited to complete the bid document form in order to submit their interest, available here.
