Seven candidates have been appointed to the World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) Board of Directors following elections. 

The roles of secretary, treasurer, chairs of the Ultimate and Freestyle Committees, and three director at large positions were sought by the Federation, who received International Olympic Committee (IOC) recognition last August.

Voting at the election, with all positions up for two-year terms, was conducted online from November 15 to December 15.

After WFDF Member Associations cast their votes, Germany’s Thomas Griesbaum and America’s Kate Bergeron were re-elected to Executive Board as secretary and treasurer respectively.

Similarly, Canada’s Brian Gisel returned as the chair of the Ultimate Committee, a role he has held since 2009, having replicated Griesbaum’s achievement of received 119 yes votes, the maximum number available.

Kevin Givens, the WFDF Executive Director from 2008 to 2010, was appointed as the chair of the Freestyle Committee with the American boasting 30-years of experience in managing and playing the discipline. 

With a single transferable vote method used for the director at large positions at total of 132 votes were available for the four candidates, with Chinese Taipei’s Michael Hu securing 38 yes votes to be re-elected to the role he has held since 2009.

America’s Jamie Newer and Qatar’s Caroline Malone received 37 and 31 votes respectively to claim the final two position.

Another American, Josh Seamon, failed to make the board after only earning 26 votes.

“We are particularly pleased about the interest and high participation of our member associations in this year’s election,” said Robert Rauch, President of the WFDF.

“At a stage where the IOC puts great attention towards good governance structures of the International Federations and after having obtained full IOC recognition in 2015 we are happy to see that the WFDF Board composition was confirmed as an extremely qualified and experienced slate of candidates meeting all key requirements of the recognition criteria.

“We also managed to increase the number of women on the Board to three out of 14.”

The seven successful candidates will join Rauch, Disc Golf Committee chair Michael Downes, Overall Committee chair Tomas Burval, Guts Committee chair Steve Taylor and Beach Committee chair Patrick van der Valk on the bBoard.

Japan’s Fumio Morooka, a director at large, and Athletes’ Commission chair Ryan Purcell also returned to the Board after their positions were not up for election.

Two positions on the Ultimate Committee were also appointed during the elections with Australia's Richard Moore chosen to serve as its Spirit of the Game chair and American Elizabeth Houtrow was named the Events Subcommittee chair.
