More than 1,000 people attended an event in Turkey's capital Ankara ahead of the Women's European volleyball qualification tournament for the Rio 2016 Olympics.

The city will host eight teams and only one qualification spot is available for this summer's Games in Brazil.

The event saw fans meet the Turkish team at the CEPA Shopping Mall and hundreds of t-shirts, volleyballs and posters were signed.

There was also a short trivia session and free tickets to matches were handed out.

All of the games will be played at the Başkent Volleyball Hall with Turkey beginning their campaign against Croatia in a Pool A clash on January 4.

The two countries will be joined in the Pool by Germany and The Netherlands, while Belgium, Italy, Russia and Poland will contest Pool B.

Two countries from each group will advance to the semi-finals with the winner of the final booking their place in Rio.

The countries who finish second and third will still have hopes of the Olympics, however, as a final World qualification tournament will be held in Tokyo between May and June to decide the final berths at the Games.

Serbia will not be taking part in Ankara after already booking their Rio spot at the Women's World Cup in 2015.
