Britain's Simon Starr has been selected as the head table official for the wheelchair rugby tournament at next year's Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

As head table official, Starr will be responsible for training and leading the crew of national technical officials who work on the score bench and penalty box during the tournament.

His appointment follows him performing the role successfully at the BT World Wheelchair Rugby Challenge at the Copper Box on the Queen Elizabeth Park in London in October.

Starr started out as a table official in August 2009 at the Trevor Williams Memorial Tournament in Nottingham.

Since then he has been involved in a number of international tournaments, including London 2012 and the 2014 World Championships in Odense, Denmark.

Starr's appointments follows his decision to scale back his role as a director at Sport Nottinghamshire, one of 49 County Sports Partnerships developed by Sport England with the aim of actively contributing to increasing participation and widening access to sport and physical activity.

"I’m hugely excited, it’s a huge honour and a privilege to have been selected and I hope to represent GB to the best of my ability," said Starr following his appointment at Rio 2016.

“Being head official brings a lot of responsibility and it is a challenging role but I look forward to the challenge.”
