Nine student-athletes are set to take part in the Singapore Olympic Foundation-Peter Lim (SOF-Peter Lim) Amunt Valencia Football Camp which is due to take place from today until next Monday (December 21) in the Spanish city.

Each of the athletes are part of the Crest Secondary School team, who finished in second position in the "C" division at the 2014 National Schools Football Championship, and are recipients of the SOF-Peter Lim Scholarship.

In addition to their footballing achievements the participants in the camp, aged between 14 and 15-years-old, were selected as a result of their conduct, attitude and discipline.

They are set to undergo a training programme at GloVal Academy at the Valencia Club de Fútbol (Valencia CF) Sports City, under the tutelage of expert coaches from the Spanish football giants.

“We are very pleased that our Singapore Olympic Foundation-Peter Lim Scholarship recipients have the opportunity to participate in the Singapore Olympic Foundation-Peter Lim Amunt Valencia Football Camp,” said International Olympic Committee member Ng Ser Miang, chairman of the SOF, President of the Fundació Valencia CF and director of Valencia CF.

“We hope this experience will encourage them to aspire for greater heights in sports and we hope they will enjoy the Valencian hospitality and culture.”

The scholarship recipients will also be joined at the camp by eight student-athletes and four coaches from their school, as well as Northlight School and St Joseph’s Institution.

In addition to the training programme, the participants will also play a friendly match against Monte Sion Football Club, receive a Mestalla Forever Tour and watch Valencia’s home match against Getafe Football Club at the Mestalla Stadium on Saturday (December 19).

The SOF-Peter Lim Scholarship was set up in 2011 to support promising young athletes from financially challenged backgrounds to help them achieve their sporting goals, with the SOF having partnered with the Singaporean businessman, who took ownership of Valencia in 2014.

“I am very excited to participate in the Singapore Olympic Foundation-Peter Lim Amunt Valencia Football Camp,” said scholarship student-athlete Muhammad Zamanuriki Bin Mohd Zamnuri.

“I can’t wait to train under the watch of the Valencia Club de Fútbol trainers and hope that I will be able to improve my football skills after this experience.

“I am very grateful to Singapore Olympic Foundation, Mr Peter Lim and Valencia Club de Fútbol for this special opportunity.

Applications for the 2016 SOF-Peter Lim Scholarship are set to open on January 4, with interested applicants invited to apply via the Singapore Olympic Foundation website at www.sof.sg.
