Rome 2024 has appointed a five member Board of Trustees to oversee their bid for the Olympic and Paralympic Games and it has been tasked with ensuring greater transparency.

Launched by Rome 2024 President Luca di Montezemolo, the committee is designed to ensure the Italian capital city’s bid meets international standards for operating and contractual procedures, while remaining transparent.

Professor Raffaele Squitieri is one of the senior figures in the Italian legal establishment who have been appointed to the Board of Trustees, with the 74-year-old currently holding the role of President of the Court of Auditors.

He is joined by Professor Giorgio Santacroce, first President of Italy's Supreme Court since 2013, as well as Professor Enzo Moavero Milanesi, the former Minister for European Affairs and director of the Law School of the Luiss Guido Carli Univeristy.

The five-member Board also includes lawyer Livia Pomodoro, former President of the Court of Milan and President of the Milan Center for Food, Law and Policy.

Giovanni Legnini, appointed vice-president of the High Council of Judges and Prosecutors in 2014, is the final legal expert on the panel.

It is hoped the Board will ensure the Rome 2024 bid is fully compliant with the International Olympic Committee’s rules and regulations.

Additionally, Rome 2024 claim the Board of Trustees will also leave a lasting legacy by setting a benchmark for administrative standards, which they believe will be applicable to future events.

The first meeting of the committee was held on Monday (November 30) where they were met by di Montezemolo, along with Rome 2024 vice-president Luca Pancalli and general coordinator Diana Bianchedi.

Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI) President Giovanni Malagò was also in attendance at the meeting.

Rome is one of four cities vying to stage the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games alongside fellow European contenders Budapest and Paris, as well as American city Los Angeles.

The German city of Hamburg had been in contention to stage the Games, but withdrew on Sunday (November 29) after 51.6 per cent of its citizens voted against proceeding with a bid following a referendum.
