Norway’s men remain top of the round-robin table at the Le Gruyere European Curling Championships in Esbjerg after extending their unbeaten run to five games.

Having overcome Italy 8-3 in today’s morning session, Norway recorded a 9-4 victory against Czech Republic at the Granly Hockey Arena this evening.

In the third end of the game, Czech skip David Sik produced one of the shots of the tournament with a strong double take-out that moved four Norwegian stones in all, but only scored one point.

Norway's Thomas Ulsrud drew his last stone into the house to score three points in the sixth end and establish a 9-2 lead, which he and his team-mates comfortably preserved.

Elsewhere, defending champions Sweden followed up an 8-7 win against Russia by cruising to a 9-1 victory against Italy.

Russia went on to lose 9-8 against Germany, who earlier had lost 8-4 to Finland.

Finland made it two wins out of two on the day by claiming a 9-5 victory over Switzerland and there was also an 8-2 triumph for The Netherlands against Scotland.

The Dutch and the Scottish both suffered defeats in the morning session with the former losing 8-7 against Czech Republic and the latter going down 9-2 against Switzerland.

Meanwhile in the women’s competition, hosts Denmark kept their winning streak going with an 8-1 thrashing of Sweden.

Skip Lene Nielsen opened her account with a raise take-out for two points in the fourth end to set Denmark on their way to maintaining their unbeaten record.

"We've got a good feel for the ice and it's great to play at home," said Nielsen.

"We got a good couple of steals early on and got to control the game from then on."

Russia tasted defeat for the first time after finding themselves on the wrong end of a 9-7 scoreline against Norway, while Scotland beat Hungary 9-3.

The two other matches saw Switzerland beat Estonia 10-5 and Finland get the better of Germany in a 12-5 win.

Action is due to continue in the Danish coastal town until Saturday (November 28).
