Eight Olympians from the Czech Republic have been given new cars by ŠKODA as part of an existing partnership between the manufacturer and the Czech Olympic Committee (COC).

Zuzana Hejnová, the current women’s 400 metres hurdles world champion, rower Ondřej Synek, tennis player Lucie Hradecka and shooter Adela Sykorova all received their cars at the ŠKODA Customer Centre in Mlada Boleslav.

Canoeists Josef Dostal, Lukas Trefil, Daniel Havel and Jan Sterba, Olympic bronze medallists in the men’s K4 1,000 metres race at London 2012, will be given their new ŠKODA vehicles when they return from their current training camp.

“Mobility is the key to our athletes,” COC President George Kejval said.

“Reliable cars are revolved in this area and can concentrate on the sport.

“We are pleased that ŠKODA AUTO is our longstanding, reliable and helpful partner.

“I believe that it will encourage an even higher pace, Zuzana even promised me.”

ŠKODA AUTO has been a partner of the COC since the 1992 and this latest incentive for the Czech athletes comes after the two parties signed a four-year extension to their existing agreement.

The company, founded in the country in 1895, are heavily involved with sport and has been a partner of the Tour de France and Vuelta a España cycling races.

ŠKODA has also been the main sponsor for the International Ice Hockey Federation World Championships for over two decades.

“We are proud that we can contribute to the success of Czech athletes at the Olympics,” ŠKODA chief sales organiser Lubos Vlcek said.

“I believe that the new cars Czech hopes to become reliable partners in intensive preparations for the Olympics in 2016.

“I would also like to wish our athletes luck in the contest ahead.”

The Czech Republic claimed a haul of 10 medals at London 2012, four of which were gold.
