Spanish city Malaga will host next year’s Junior European Judo Championships, the European Judo Union (EJU) has announced.

The event, which brings together the continent’s most promising judokas, will take place from September 16 to 18.

The agreement for Malaga to host the competition was signed by EJU President Sergey Soloveychik and Spanish Judo Federation President Juan Carlos Barcos.

“We are proud that the EJU gave us the trust and the opportunity to host this important competition,” Barcos said.

“I think we can improve the level because here in Malaga we have the experience of hosting the World Veteran Championships, the World Kata Championships, the refereeing seminar and some European Judo Cups like we hosted this weekend.

“We are convinced that we can do a good job and prepare a competition that can be positive for everybody.”

The competition in Malaga will come after another Spanish city, La Coruna, hosts a leg of the Junior European Judo Cup and an EJU Junior Training Camp in May.

This year’s edition of the Junior European Judo Championships was held in Oberwart, Austria, where The Netherlands put in an impressive display to earn a haul of six medals, four of which were gold.

Georgia were second on three golds and two bronzes while France were third.

Romanian capital Bucharest staged the 2014 event.
