The International Rowing Federation (FISA) has announced the finalists for its prestigious World Rowing Awards, with Great Britain’s Helen Glover and Heather Stanning bidding to round off another successful campaign by being crowned Female Crew of the Year.

The British duo retained both their European and world titles this year and went through the season unbeaten, with Glover finishing the year at the summit of the World Rowing Top 10 rankings.

Glover and Stanning, also the reigning Olympic champions, face stiff competition for the World Rowing Female Crew of the Year prize from the United States women’s eight, comprised of Katelin Snyder, Heidi Robbins, Tessa Gobbo, Kerry Simmonds, Emily Regan, Lauren Schmetterling, Amanda Polk, Meghan Musnicki and Victoria Opitz.

The American crew romped to victory at this year’s World Championships in Aiguebelette, France, earning a record 10th straight win in the process.

Also nominated for the women’s award is Kim Crow, another rower to end the season unbeaten and who reclaimed her world title after finishing second at the 2014 World Championships in Amsterdam.

French lightweight double sculls team Jeremie Azou and Stany Delayre have enjoyed a remarkable turnaround from their fourth-place result at London 2012 and secured their first-ever world title this year, earning them a nomination for the World Rowing Male Crew of the Year award.

The French pair will go up against Switzerland’s lightweight men’s four team of Mario Gyr, Simon Niepmann, Simon Schuerch and Lucas Tramer, who had been competing as smaller crews before coming together to win European and world gold this year.

Croatian brothers Valent and Martin Sinkovic, both part of the men’s quadruple sculls team which won silver at London 2012, have also been named as finalists.

They made a successful transition into the double sculls in 2014, winning the world title before defending their crown in 2015.

Azou and Delayre’s coach Alexis Besancon has been shortlisted for the Coach of the Year prize alongside Nikola Bralic, who led the Sinkovic brothers to gold.

Ian Wright, who coached the Switzerland men’s four crew to World Championships gold in France, is also in contention for the award.

The nominees for the World Rowing Distinguished Services to International Rowing prize include Czech Magdalena Sarbachova, a FISA commission chair and Council member, Germany’s renowned boat builder Klaus Filter and Australian John Boultbee, FISA secretary general from 1989 to 1995.

Denmark’s former FISA Executive Committee member Borge Kaas-Andersen, who has been a rower, coach and umpire, also made the shortlist.

Rowing's world governing body allowed fans to put forward one nomination in each category before the list of finalists was whittled down by the FISA Council.

The winners of each prize are due to be revealed on November 20, before they each receive their award on November 21 in Sarasota, Florida, at the 2015 World Rowing Coaches Conference gala dinner.
