Dutch number one seed Mike Schloesser will bid to mark his first-ever appearance at an Archery World Cup Final with men’s compound gold when the season-ending event is due to get underway in Mexico City on Sunday (October 24).

Schloesser, dubbed “Mister Perfect” in the archery world after he shot a perfect score of 600 out of 600 from 18 metres in Nimes, France,  in January, is likely to face stiff competition from Frenchman Sebastien Peineau during the competition in the Mexican capital.

Peineau, currently ranked at number one in the world, comes into the event as the favourite having claimed gold at the most recent Archery World Cup in Medellin, Colombia.

His performance came after he reigned supreme at the opening competition of the season in Shanghai.

The two will go head-to-head for the title, though third seed Reo Wilde of the United States, winner of the inaugural edition of the Archery World Cup Final in 2006, will also hope to secure gold.

The winner of each event will share in  a prize fund of CHF140,000 (£95,000/$146,000/€129,000) and World Archery President Uğur Erdener claimed the World Cup has seen the sport reach new levels over the past decade.

“Mexico City 2015 marks the 10th anniversary of the Archery World Cup Final,” he said.

“Over the last decade we’ve seen archery’s premier international tour go from strength to strength, providing a platform for the sport’s elite to perform in iconic venues around the world.”

World Archery has also announced that new versions of their live scoring, results and data applications are available in time for the season’s World Cup finale.

The updated applications, available from the Android and Apple stores, will include more extensive athlete biographies as well as results and and integration with Archery TV, World Archery’s YouTube channel.

“World Archery is committed to making archery available to its millions of fans around the world through the latest in technology,” Erdener said.

“Sport content is forever being consumed faster and more concisely by the younger generation of sports followers, and these new applications will ensure archery is always at their fingertips.”

As well as the men’s and women’s compound competition, men’s and women’s recurve will also be held in Mexico City alongside mixed team events for both disciplines.
