The Colombian Olympic Committee (COC) welcomed several key officials to a meeting in the capital Bogota to discuss preparations for the 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games which they will host in Barranquilla.

Central American and Caribbean Sports Organisation (CACSO) President Hector Cardona was among the attendees at COC headquarters, where discussions were held over the creation of a Central American and Caribbean Games corporation.

The establishment of the corporation was approved, and the private entity will be tasked with managing the resources for the Games.

Additionally, the company will help Barranquilla 2018 with the implementation of various aspects related to the delivery of the multi-sport event.

Also discussed was the contract for the Games, which were awarded to Barranquilla in October 2012 having been the sole bidders, while technical aspects required to stage the event were mulled over by those present.

COC President Baltazar Medina was joined by Ciro Solano Hurtado, first vice-president of the COC, and Pedro Salcedo, the director of Barranquilla 2018, in welcoming key personnel of the CACSO.

The 23rd edition of the Games will be the second hosted by the city, after it staged them back in 1946.

Veracruz in Mexico hosted the last edition of the quadrennial event in 2014, which saw 31 nations competing in 36 sports, attracting a total of 5,707 athletes.
