The 24 participants for the United States women's boxing Rio 2016 Olympic Trials have been confirmed with less than one month to go until the event in Memphis, Tennessee.

The event is scheduled to take place at the Memphis Cook Convention Center from October 26 to 31.

Qualification for the Trials began nearly nine months ago at the 2015 USA Boxing National Championships with the finalists in each of the three Olympic weight divisions earning spots in the event.

London 2012 Olympic gold medallist Claressa Shields, and bronze medallist Marlen Esparza, both clinched berths in their second straight Olympic Trials with National Championship wins, while 2012 Olympic Trials silver medallist Mikaela Mayer claimed the number one spot in her lightweight division.

Six spots in each women's Olympic weight division remained up for grabs following the National Championships.

The remaining Trials berths were determined at the Pathway to Glory Olympic Trials Qualifiers I and II in June in Colorado Springs, and September in Baltimore.

Each of the qualifying tournaments featured decorated athletes with Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games gold medal-winning lightweight Jajaira Gonzalez claiming her first elite division title and the outstanding boxer award at the Olympic Trials Qualifier I.

London 2012 Olympic Trials silver medal-winning middleweight Tika Hemingway moved on to her second straight Olympic Trials with victory in Colorado Springs as well.

Meanwhile in Baltimore, Tiara Brown, the 2012 world champion and Washington DC Police Academy student, clinched her second Olympic Trials berth with a gold medal in the lightweight division.

Hometown boxer and two-time World Championship medallist Franchon Crews took a middleweight crown in her home ring to advance on to her second consecutive Olympic Trials as well.

Eight boxers will compete in each of the three women's Olympic weight divisions in the double elimination tournament in Memphis.

Final round action will be contested at the Cannon Center for the Performing Arts within the Cook Convention Center on October 31.

If needed, an additional final round session could take place on November 1.

Next month’s event will mark the second Olympic Trials for women's boxing following the inaugural event in February 2012.

The 2012 event took place six months before women's boxing made its Olympic debut in London.
