Hosts China cruised into the quarter finals at the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) men's Asia Championship as the competition's only unbeaten side.

They thrashed Qatar 89-65 in Changsha as the final games in the second round group phase were played before the last eight.

After roaring into a 26-17 lead after the first quarter, the Chinese never looked back with Zhou Qi eventually leading the points scorers for them with 13.

At one stage China bagged 16 points without reply as they finished top of Group F, one of two second round groups, with a 100 per cent record.

Qatar, though, can take solace from finishing second behind their conquerors which is also good enough for a last eight spot, while third placed South Korea and fourth placed Lebanon have also advanced.

In Group E, The Philippines topped the pile after finishing in fine form by thrashing India 99-65.

The Indians still snuck into the last eight in the final qualifying position, with defending champions Iran and Japan also going through.

Iran thrashed Palestine 94-48 to end the defeated side's hopes of overhauling the Indians while Japan were too strong for bottom side Hong Kong, recording a 89-62 victory as they came third.

After a rest day in the tournament tomorrow, the Championships will continue with the quarter-finals on Thursday when China are due to face India.

Iran will play South Korea, Japan will meet Qatar and the Philippines will collide with Lebanon in the other matches.

The winners of the tournament will qualify for next summer's Olympics in Rio.
