China’s Bin Lyu and Russia’s Misha Aloian successfully retained their under 49 kilogram light flyweight and 52kg flyweight titles after two entertaining International Boxing Association (AIBA) Pro Boxing World Championship matches.

Aloian produced a stunning performance in front of a sell-out crowd at the Arena Sports and Entertainment Complex in Kemerovo, Russia, against Mexico’s Elias Emigido.

The pair had met in the inaugural flyweight championship bout over eight rounds in January with the Russian proving victorious and although Emigido put up a dogged resistance he proved unable to live with the home favourite.

The 27-year-old Aloian comfortably fended off his opponents attacks and began to rack up points with a series of strong punches and excellent footwork from the Russian proving too much for Emigido.

With his Mexican opponent beginning to tire in the face of his relentless attacks, Aloian was clearly cruising to victory in the final round to the delight of the crowd, who began chanting his name, and the judges acknowledged his dominance by awarding him a unanimous points win.

China’s Lyu also benefited from home advantage as he took on Kazakhstan’s Birzhan Zhakypov at the Guizhou Arena in Guiyang.

Zhakypov had been expected to provide a stern test for the defending light flyweight champion having won his previous five fights, but he endured a difficult start against an inspired opponent.

Having claimed the first two rounds, Lyu suffered a setback in the third as Zhakypov started to work his way into the bout

His momentum did not last long, however, as the Chinese boxer regained the initiative and started to dominate the middle stages of the contest.

It appeared as though Lyu would record a straightforward points victory as the tie approached its conclusion but the 31-year-old Zhakypov gave himself a chance by landing a series of strong bodyshots.

The Kazakh fighter found himself on the end of a stunning final round from Lyu, however, which saw him confirm a unanimous points win.
