China marked their debut at the Badminton World Federation Para-Badminton World Championship in fine style with a pair of mixed doubles victories in their first two games in Stoke Mandeville, England.

Despite being a badminton powerhouse, the Chinese had never before competed at the Para-Worlds but made up for their absence by making a strong start on day one of competition today.

Their medal hopes rest with wheelchair players Mai Jianpeng and Wang Ping who teamed up to beat Ireland's Chris Stewart and Laura Lee Jenkins 21-6, 21-5 in their first game.

They then teamed up again to beat South Korea's Jungjun Kim and Jung Kum Kang but had to come from behind for their victory this time, winning 13-21, 21-15, 21-15.

Both players are also taking part in the singles with more than 100 games scheduled across various disciplines on the opening day of the tournament. 

Stoke Mandeville, considered the birthplace of the Paralympic movement, will host the Championships until September 13.

The sport will make its Paralympic debut at Tokyo 2020.
