Thailand’s Pachanya Longchin delighted the home crowd as he recorded a superb victory over Indian veteran Manish Kaushik in the lightweight division at the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships in Bangkok.

Longchin used his speed and movement throughout the contest to claim a deserved split-decision win and he will now go on to face Mongolia’s Incheon 2014 Asian Games gold medallist Dorjnyambuu Otgondalai in the next round.

Azizbek Achilov continued Turkmenistan’s impressive showing, surprising Tajikistan’s Navruz Jafoev in the men’s light heavyweight category to pick up his country's fourth success of the event so far.

Jafoev struggled for large parts of the contest and received a warning in the second-round, which clearly affected his focus as Achilov was awarded the bout.

Elsewhere, Japan's Daisuke Narimatsu, one of the favourites in the lightweight division, endured a tough battle with Turkmenistan’s Hursand Imankuliyev before eventually emerging victorious.

There was also a triumph for Kazakhstan’s Zakir Safiullin as he outpointed Philippines’ Charly Suarez.

Uzbekistan’s Bakhodir Jalolov maintained his pursuit of a fourth gold medal this year, dominating his super heavyweight contest with Kyrgyzstan’s Sergei Parenko, sealing a unanimous win.

The 21-year-old knocked his opponent down in the second round and kept the pressure on throughout the entirety of the fight to book his place in the next phase of the competition.

“I know there was a big difference between me and my Kyrgyz opponent today, but I am not satisfied with my performance,” he said.

“I want to win the gold medal, and for that I need to improve my level.”

Jordan’s Ihab Darweish Al-Matbouli avenged his defeat to Chyngyz Borbashev earlier this year, beating his Kyrgyz rival in their heavyweight clash, while Pakistan’s Mehmood Ul Hassan secured a rare victory for his country  in the same division, beating Mongolia’s Daivii Otgonbayar.

He will go up against Asian Games winner and two-time Olympian Jakhon Qurbonov of Tajikistan in the quarter-final.

The event in the Thai capital is due to continue tomorrow with action in the light flyweight, bantamweight, light welterweight and welterweight competitions.
