The Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) have revealed their shock over the murder of the Punjab Boxing Association (PBA) president Yousaf Butt.

The official was killed at his home on August 14 by unknown people and while police investigations are ongoing the POA have paid tribute to his drive to help boost boxing in the country.

“Yousaf was a selfless man, he was associated with boxing for the last so many years and working tirelessly for promotion of boxing,” said Syed Arif Hasan, POA president.

“It’s a huge shock.

"May Allah Almighty in his infinite mercy shower his blessings and grant eternal peace to the departed soul and give strength and courage to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss.

“He will always be remembered for his contributions to sports in Punjab and Pakistan.”

As well as his role at the PBA, Butt also held the position of associate secretary of the Punjab Boxing Federation (PBF) and was the associate secretary general of the Punjab Olympic Association.

The PBF described his murder as an “irreparable loss to the sport”, while tributes from boxers were also paid.

"It’s a huge loss, he used to give us valuable tips,” said members of the PBF boxing team.

“He was also a good coach.”
