The 2015 International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) Blind Football European Championships are set to get underway at the Royal National College for the Blind (RNC) in Hereford, England as Spain begin the defence of their title.

The holders face debutants Belgium in their opening match tomorrow in Group B, which also features Russia, Greece and 2013 European silver medallists France, who Spain defeated 1-0 to secure the European crown in Loano, Italy.

Hosts England start their campaign against newcomers Poland in Group A, before going on to face Italy, Germany and Turkey.

They will no doubt come into the tournament full of confidence having secured a silver medal at May’s IBSA World Games in Korea, where they came close to causing a shock against top-ranked Argentina in the gold-medal match.

The event will be the biggest of its kind with 10 teams competing, up from eight at previous tournaments, split into two groups of five.

As well as competing for the right to be crowned European champions, there is the added incentive of automatic Paralympic Games qualification with the top two teams earning a place at Rio 2016.

The RNC is a major centre of excellence for visually impaired sport in the United Kingdom and previously hosted the IBSA Blind Football World Championships in 2010.

Tomorrow's other fixtures will see Turkey meet Germany in Group A and France play Russia in Group B.
