Having been established at the IJF Congress at Rio de Janeiro in 2013, the Academy aims to provide professional education in all sectors of judo, including the development and running of a national judo coach education and certification system.

Prospective students will be able to sign up on to the Academy on the website, before registering and completing coaching courses which are available in several different languages.     

The first coaching course provided by the Academy is the Level 1 instructor course, which takes place across 11 weeks and is aimed at teaching coaches the skills they need to work effectively with youth and beginner athletes.

Theoretical subjects are held online to offer students as flexible as course as possible, while they will be invited to take part in practical classes at a residential camp after completing the theory aspects of the course.

After completing the instructor course students will then be able to progress to the level 2 coaching course, which aims to prepare them to be able to coach the basic competition model for national and regional level.

By the end of the course they will be expected to be able to deliver appropriate training sessions for athletes during the context of an annual training plan.

The third and final step of coaching qualifications offered by the IJF Academy is designed to provide an introduction to performance coaching, specialising in national and regional.

Academic content on the course is delivered by the IJF in partnership with the University of Physical Education in Budapest in Hungary.
