World number one Inbee Park completed a career Grand Slam by producing a stunning final round to win the Women’s British Open at Turnberry in Scotland.

Three solid rounds had seen the South Korean poised to pounce on any mistakes from the leaders, compatriot Jin Young Ko and Chinese Taipei’s Teresa Lu, three shots clear of Park on eight-under par, but who had no previous experience of leading a major.

Having already won six majors, Park was accustomed to the pressure of competing for one of golf’s most prestigious titles and immediately set about closing the gap on the leaders with two birdies in the opening three holes.

The winner of this year’s Women’s PGA Championship was back to where she started just two holes later after consecutive bogeys, but three further birdies in the remaining holes on the front nine reignited her challenge for a first Women’s British Open victory.

A key moment in the 27-year-old’s round was an eagle on the 14th hole to move onto 11-under par for the tournament, having already claimed a birdie on the 10th.

It saw her increase the pressure further on Ko who eventually began to buckle with a bogey at the 13th, denting her prospects, before a double bogey on the 16th after finding the water saw her dream of trying to claim a major at her first attempt fade.

Ko held on to take second behind Park, who ended three shots clear on 12-under par following another birdie saw her conclude the tournament with a stunning round of 65.

Park’s triumph added to earlier triumphs in the United States Women’s Open on two occasions, as well as the ANA Inspiration in 2013 and the last three editions of the Women’s PGA Championship.

A South Korean top three was completed by So Yeon Ryu after she ended level with New Zealand’s Lydia Ko on eight-under par.

Last year’s runner-up Suzann Pettersen of Norway was a further shot back in fifth, while the joint-leader at the start of the day, Lu, finished on six-under par after ending with a 74.
