A head of operations has been appointed by the organisers of the 2017 International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Championships in London, it was announced today. 

Michelle Dite, a former England hockey international, will take on the role which will cover all operational areas, including accommodation, security, technology, broadcast, volunteer programme and transport, for the Championships due to be held in the Olympic Stadium on the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. 

Dite previously worked with Fast Track delivering the UK Athletics televised events for 14 years and led the creation of a number of events, including the Paralympic World Cup and UK School Games.

Dite more recently moved within the CSM group, a leading sport and entertainment agencies run by former London 2012 chairman Sebastian Coe to head of events, where she was responsible for the event management delivery of the inaugural Invictus Games last year.

“I’m delighted to be coming on board to support the delivery of the biggest sporting occasion in the country in 2017," said Dite.

"I will look to draw upon my experiences in sport to ensure that we continue to showcase the UK’s ability of staging world-class events.

“One of my key priorities is to ensure that all of the infrastructure is in place so that the athletes and team personnel can perform at their highest levels and deliver the sort of performances that resonated so well with the public at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.”

Earlier this year, London 2017 announced Chris Denny and Michael Beloff as the head of marketing and communications and the honorary legal adviser respectively.

They join a team headed by Sally Bolton, appointed managing director in May 2014. 

"We're delighted to welcome someone of Michelle's calibre to the team," said Bolton.

"She brings a wealth of experience and a passion for delivering major events that will help us in our aim of delivering an incredible summer of World athletics in 2017."
