Cameroon National Olympic Committee hope to install Olympic values in young people ©

The Cameroon National Olympic Committee (CNOSC) have stage a conference alongside the National Federation of University Sports (Fenasu) to encourage students to adopt Olympic values.

Held alongside Cameroon’s hosting of the 18th edition of the University Games, the conference focused on the theme of "challenges and stakes of the emergence of an Olympic generation for growth and national integrity.”

The event attracted several key speakers such as Professor Jean Tabi Manga, director general of the National Olympic Academy of Cameroon, who stressed the need for young people to adopt Olympic values, particularly during competition.

Professor Manga also revealed to the students that the National Olympic Committee are set to sign a convention with both Fenasu and the Ministry of Higher Education, which he believes will help to install Olympic values in young people.

Speakers primarily focused on the principles of peace, tolerance and mutual respect during sporting competitions, whilst emphasising the need for fair play at all times.

They hope that by installing these beliefs in the sporting environment, students will begin to take them into their everyday lives and in turn help Cameroon to grow and develop.

Another topic that was examined was the attitudes towards HIV positive athletes with the speakers encouraging the students to avoid discriminating against those athletes during any university games competition.

Diffo Justine, who is aiming to improve the role of women in sport, Jean Emmanuel Pondi, Amvam Zollo and Asheri Kilo were also among the speakers at the conference.
