A "challenge" course has been praised by Oceania NOC representatives ©ONOC

Delegates from throughout the Pacific region have participated in a Oceania Sports Education Programme (OSEP) at the Oceania National Olympic Committee (ONOC) office in Suva.

The workshop, which included participants from Samoa, Cook Islands, Tonga and Micronesia was designed to boost the level of sports administration in the region, and attract new participants into working with each of the ONOC members.

Although it was said afterwards to be "challenging", there were many positive thoughts, with it considered a strong opportunity for the region to continue its growth.

“This marks the end of our eight months journey and was the completion of the fourth module," said OSEP coordinator Sainimili Talatoka afterwards.

“There were exciting journey, movers and shakers in sport, those who have the purpose. ONOC - Olympic Movement future looks very bright and participants are determined to make a difference,” Talatoka said.

Similar praised was echoed by Samoa National Olympic Committee chief executive Faamausili Taiva Ah Young, who said the course was very handy for National Federations back at home.

But according to ONOC Medical Commission liaison Meli Cavu, with a full strategic plan now in process the challenge now will be one the actual implementation.

This comes less than a month ahead of the Pacific Games in Port Moresby, which are set to open in the Papua New Guinean on July 4 and little more than a year ahead of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

The introduction of rugby sevens onto the programme in Rio has increased opportunities for Pacific nations, especially for Samoa and Fiji, who each have a realistic chance of a first ever Olympic medal in the new event.
