This year’s edition of the World Archery Championships in Copenhagen is set to be the “biggest ever by 25 per cent”, it is claimed, with 699 athletes from 100 countries already registered to compete.

The six-day preliminary programme, including the primary qualification tournament for Rio 2016, is scheduled to begin at the picturesque setting of Sundby Idrætspark on July 26, with the finals taking place in Christiansborg Palace Square on August 1 and 2.

There are 24 Olympic quota places per gender up for grabs in the team event in the Danish capital, while eight individual spots for men and eight for women are also at stake.

The last edition of the biennial outdoor World Championships, held in Antalya, Turkey, two years ago attracted entries from 69 countries with a total of 441 archers competing.

In 2011 in Italian city Turin, 562 archers from 84 countries took part, while 64 nations were represented at the 2009 instalment in Ulsan, South Korea, with 412 archers participating.

Up to 4,000 fans are expected to attend the 2015 Championships, with entry free until July 31, and finals days prices starting at €10 (£7/$11) per person.

Spectators can also purchase full weekend tickets for approximately €30 (£22/$34) with the finals days split into a morning session and an afternoon session.
