Blind football will form part of the programme at the upcoming UEFA Champions Festival for the first time, the International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) have announced.

The event is due to tomorrow and runs through to Sunday (June 7) and is held every year to go alongside the UEFA Champions League final.

This year’s Festival, which takes place in Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, will see German side Stuttgart take on French outfit Bordeaux in a blind football match tomorrow, and former Germany captain Michael Ballack, a two-time Champions League runner-up, is set to greet the players and offer tips and advice.

It will give fans an historic opportunity to watch two top blind football teams exhibit their skills in front of a healthy amount of spectators who are expected to come out in force.

As well as the momentous exhibition match between Stuttgart and Bordeaux, supporters will also be able to watch a Special Olympics contest on Friday (June 5) and an amputee match, organised by the European Amputee Football Federation, the following day.

The IBSA have thanked UEFA for including blind football at the Festival for the first time in its history.

It marks the first of two events where the two organisations will work together as UEFA are due to organise a disability awareness day at its headquarters in Nyon on June 26.

During the day, a match between two unnamed teams is also scheduled, with more details expected to be announced in the coming days.

The Festival incorporates a series of cultural events, entertainment and other activities around European football’s showpiece finale.

The 2015 final, held at the Olympic Stadium in the German capital, will be contested by Spanish La Liga champions Barcelona and Juventus, who reigned supreme in Serie A this season.
