World champions Colombia won women’s team event compound gold at the second stage of the Archery World Cup in Antalya.

Sara Lopez, Maja Marcen and Alejandra Usquiano began with a 59-point end against a young South Korean squad, and despite a leaked eight in the second series they went on to claim a 231-226 victory.

“We’ve been working and preparing together for many years,” said Usquiano, individual winner of the 2013 Archery World Cup tour.

“We still have a lot of work to do but we won’t give up.

“And while we can’t promise more medals, we always do our best.”

The Russian trio of Albina Loginova, Natalia Avdeeva and Mariia Vinogradova secured third place after beating Denmark in the bronze medal match.

There was further disappointment for Denmark in the men’s gold medal match as the United States prevailed at their expense in a dramatic encounter.

With the two nations tied at 203 points apiece, 10s from the US’ Steve Anderson and Reo Wilde either side of a nine from Bridger Deaton set the benchmark for Denmark.

Patrick Laursen shot a line-cutting nine before Stephan Hansen put in a nine and Martin Damsbo finished with a 10.

After the judge had deemed that Laursen’s arrow would not be upgraded, the US were crowned winners by a single point.

“It has been a tough match,” said Wilde.

“To come up on top is good because they’ve got the best of us at times but we got the best this time and the win.

“We’ve shot against these guys a lot.

“Between the two of us, we’ve won the Antalya tournament for the past few years.”

In the bronze medal match, South Korea led from start to finish as they comfortably beat Mexico.

South Korea's Jongho Kim won the compound men's gold medal with The Netherlands' Mike Schloesser and Wilde in second and third respectively.

Andrea Marcos of Spain took the equivalent women's title and was followed onto the podium by Russia's Mariia Vinogradova and then Mexico's Stephanie Sarai Salinas.

As for the compound mixed team event, Denmark's Hansen and Tanja Jensen fought off the challenge of South African duo Jeanine van Kradenburg and Gabriel Badenhorst, while the German pairing of Kristina Heigenhauser and Marcus Laube took bronze.

Competition will conclude in the Olympic recurve bow category in the Turkish resort tomorrow.
