Paralympic long jump champion Markus Rehm of Germany was in superb form at the 10th International Paralympic Meeting Kern Pharma as he broke his own world record in Barcelona.

Rehm leapt an impressive 8.29 metres in the T44 category to take a dominant victory, adding a further five centimetres to his jump at the German able-bodied national trials last July.

The event, one of the most important on the European Paralympic calendar, also saw Italian world long jump T42 champion Martina Caironi claim a personal best of 4.60m in the T42 category.

Her excellent jump equalled the current world record, set by Germany's Vanessa Low at last year’s International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Athletics Grand Prix Final in Birmingham, United Kingdom.

Elsewhere on a packed weekend of action, Dutchwoman Marlou van Rhijn also etched her name into the history books once more with another stunning performance in the T43 200m.

Van Rhijn’s superb display came in front of her home crowd at Hoorn, and the Paralympic and world champion clocked atime of 25.99sec, 0.19 seconds quicker than her run at London 2012.

It has already been a fruitful season for the Dutch star after she broke her own 100m record by running 12.85 at the opening IPC Athletics Grand Prix of the season in Dubai in February.

Due to difficult conditions on home soil, she was unable to beat that once again but her recent performances certainly suggest she is the one to beat over the sprinting distances.

Both Van Rhijn and Caironi are due to compete at the upcoming Grand Prix in Nottwil, Switzerland, scheduled to take place from May 29 to 31.

After that event, the series moves on to Grosseto, Italy from June 12 to 14, with the penultimate competition taking place from June 19 until 21.

The 2015 Grand Prix series is due to conclude with the Final on July 26 at the Olympic Stadium in London.
