Baku 2015 have announced Azertac as the official news agency of the inaugural European Games, due to begin on June 12 and runs through to June 28.

The company are one of the leading Azerbaijani media organisations and they are set to provide expansive coverage of the historic event, including text, video and photographic content.

A team of around 50 journalists make Azertac the largest Azeri news agency at the Games and they will focus their resources on promoting the event to both an international and national audience.

Baku 2015 chief operating officer Simon Clegg heralded the agreement and hopes it will help enhance uptake of certain sports during and after the European Games.

“We are delighted that Azertac has become the official news agency of Baku 2015 and believe the coverage it will generate across the country will help us inspire more people to play sport across Azerbaijan,” he said.

“Internationally, they have an important role to play, helping us build the brand of the European Games, which will be shown to a global TV audience in excess of one billion people.”

Their content will be available on a dedicated Baku 2015 section of the company’s website and, as well as coverage of the Games themselves, they are also due to broadcast profile features and general human interest stories throughout the event.
