British and Hungarian Para-canoeists dominated the European Canoe Sprint Senior Championships, staged at Racice in the Czech Republic.

World champion Anne Dickins led the British challenge, powering to victory in the women’s KL3 200m competition, crossing the line with a two second advantage over her nearest rival Mihalela Lulea of Romania.

“The team have been amazing in supporting us throughout everything and I felt very well prepared for my race,” Dickens said afterwards.

“I really feel proud to be the first gold medallist in the new KL3 category, and I’m really pleased that Para-canoe now has a robust classification system moving forward.”

Dickins' compatriot Jeanette Chippington, also claimed two world titles at the 2014 (ICF) Sprint Canoe World Championships in Moscow, Russia, displayed her class throughout the KL1 200m final.

Chippington pulled away from the field, finishing three seconds clear of Germany’s Edina Muller to take gold.

The rush of British medals continued with Ian Marsden and Rob Oliver earning golds in their KL1 men’s 200m and KL3 men’s 200m events, while the two-day Championships also saw success for Hungary.

Robert Suba and Daneil Geri secured golds with impressive performances in the men’s VL1 and VL3 competitions as Hungary ended the Championship with three medals.

Suba crossed the line in the 200m event in 1.03.395, with Italy’s Andrea Pistritto finishing four seconds adrift to claim silver, while France’s Cyrille Hureau completed the podium.

Geri was equally as impressive in taking victory ahead of Russian duo Aleksei Egorov and Tweedie in 51.992, while France and Austria earned solitary golds through Cindy Moreau and Markus Swoboda, who won the KL2 women’s and KL2 men’s 200m events respectively.

Para-canoeing is set to make its debut at the 2016 Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro, although with Para-triathlon, with competition to consist of three men's and three women's kayak events.
