Frenchman Pierre Le Coq produced a stunning performance on home waters to surge to the top of the men’s RS:X leaderboard at the International Sailing Federation (ISAF) World Cup in Hyères.

Le Coq claimed two race wins and a third place to ensure he remains the one to beat in what is proving to be a tight category as the top 10 places are separated by just 11 points.

Israel's Nimrod Mashiah is close behind the Frenchman while compatriot Shahar Zubari, winner of the other race win of the day, is also in contention.

In the women’s RS:X class, The Netherlands’ Lillian de Geus held on to top spot despite only finishing in the top 10 once as the race victories went to Manjia Zheng of China, Italy’s Laura Linares and Frenchwoman Charline Picon.

Elsewhere, Brazilian duo Fernanda Oliveira and Ana Barbachan secured their second win of the week in the women’s 470 to move to top of the overall standings.

The 2013 Hyères World Cup victors have a slender one point advantage over nearest challengers Anne Haeger and Briana Provancha of the United  after they recovered from a 13th place finish in the opening race.

The men’s 470 is also going down to the wire as leaders Sime Fantela and Igor Marenic of Croatia were pegged back by Italy’s Gabrio Zandona and Andrea Trani, who are now just 11 points behind.

In the laser category, Croatia's Tonci Stipanovic managed to make inroads into Australian Tom Burton’s advantage thanks largely to finishing third in the first race.

In the laser radial class, Evi Van Acker of Belgium edged ahead of Denmark’s Anne-Marie Rindom, establishing a narrow six-point lead.

There was some success for Denmark, though, as Ida Marie Nielsen and Marie Olsen remain in pole position in the 49erFX class, although they are set to face a strong challenge from Sweden’s Lisa Ericson and Hanna Klinga, who claimed two victories to ensure they remain hot on their  heels.

The 49er division is not quite providing the same drama however as New Zealand’s Peter Burling and Blair Tuke have a 37-point advantage over Jonas Warrer and Anders Thomsen of Denmark.

Consistency was the key in the Finn class as Britain’s Giles Scott claimed eighth and fourth to extend his margin at the top of the overall standings to 14 points.

His closest rival is compatriot Ed Wright but if Scott can replicate his form tomorrow, he is unlikely to be caught.

Today’s Nacra 17 class fell victim to the light winds with only one race taking place owing to the poor conditions, which was won by Puerto Rico's experienced pair of Enrique Figueroa and Franchesca Valdes Ortega.

In the Paralympic events, Sweden’s Bjørnar Erikstad is closing in on a second consecutive World Cup gold following an excellent display in the 2.4mR class, although his nearest competitor Damien Seguin will have the backing of the home crowd as the battle for top spot intensifies.

France also enjoyed a successful outing in the Sonar category thanks to Bruno Jourdern, Eric Flageul and Nicolas Vimont-Vicary, who secured victory in both of the day’s races.
