The formidable Pejčić, the current world number one, proved too strong for the rest of the field as she amassed 463.0 points in the final to take her second title of the event.

Her tally beat the previous record of 462.7, set by Italy's Petra Zublasing, who finished second behind the 32-year-old with a total of 459, while Selina Gschwandtner of Germany rounded off the podium by taking bronze.

Gschwandtner’s performance gave her nation an all-important Olympic quota place for Rio 2016, while the other quota spot went to fifth-placed Zhao Huixin of China.

“This is the first time in my career that I win two gold medals back to back within a World Cup stage,” Pejčić, the Beijing 2008 bronze medallist, said.

“Having already secured an Olympic quota place, it's a bit easier for me: I can focus on the shooting without pressure.

“The standing series have been great, and I eventually scored a new world record and it feels great.”

Elsewhere, Russia’s Liubov Yaskevich took the women’s 10m air pistol honours which earned her nation a quota place for Rio 2016.

Yaskevich, who narrowly missed out on an Olympic medal after she came fourth at London 2012, dominated the final from start to finish, eventually finishing with 198.3 points to earn gold.

Zhang Mengxue of China also enjoyed a successful day as she claimed her maiden career medal with silver, 0.6 points adrift of the eventual winner, and her excellent display also saw her take one of the three quota places available.

The last one went to South Korean South Korea's hope Jung Hye Kwak by virtue of her third-placed finish but the day belonged to Yaskevich, whose victory may give her the chance to banish her London demons in Rio de Janeiro next year.

“I have been training a lot after London,” she said.

“The rules changed and I worked on it in these two years.

“My scores improved slowly but constantly, and I am finally here again.

“I am still don't know if I will be heading to Rio.

“Today's quota goes to my country, and we will have selection matched back home to select the Olympic team.

“I hope I will make it.”

The World Cup event in Changwon is due to continue tomorrow with the men’s 25m rapid fire pistol competition.
