Gwangju 2015 has added East Asian supermarket Lotte Mart to its growing list of partners as an official supplier.

Lotte Mart, one of the largest chains of its kind in South Korea, will provide snacks for volunteers and staff during the Summer Universiade.

Han Byung-moon, director general of Lotte Mart, and Kim Yoon-suk, secretary general of Gwangju 2015, signed a sponsorship agreement at the organisation's headquarters.

“There are many volunteers and staff working hard behind the curtains to provide a wonderful experience for the athletes and participants,” said Kim.

“I truly appreciate Lotte Mart’s support and commitment for making their working environment more pleasant.

“As one of Korea’s leading supermarket chains, I hope the 2015 Summer Universiade can become an opportunity for the company to expand its market worldwide.”

Additionally, Gwangju 2015 has been granted the rights to use the supermarket's name and logo.

“Our partnership with Gwangju Universiade is ever so meaningful, because 2015 Summer Universiade will be the first international mega-sporting event held in Jeolla Province,” said Han.

Lotte Mart joins the likes of Hyundai Engineering and Construction, Ourhome, Hyundai Marine and Fire Insurance, Sebang Travel Ltd and Kwangju Bank as official partners of Gwangju 2015.

The event is set to attract some 20,000 participants from 170 nations, competing across 21 different sports and disciplines.
