The Talent Days, launched with the support of J P Morgan, allows youngsters the chance to get involved with sports they may never have tried before.

Other young people who have played a sport will be able to try new ones and further develop skills in existing disciplines through a series of workshops.

The opening Talent Day, held yesterday, was based on the sport of equestrian, and a further 11 are scheduled for across the rest of the year.

On April 23, attention switches to wheelchair rugby in Neckargemünd, before swimming, cycling and athletics are offered a month later, on May 30 to 31, in the city of Cottbus.

The Talent Days initiative then moves to Erfurt on June 12 and 13 where no fewer than 11 sports will be available to try for keen youngsters with impairments.

These include archery, athletics, boccia, cycling, judo, Nordic skiing, powerlifting, shooting, table tennis, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair fencing, wheelchair rugby and also football, with a further eight days planned later in the year in Munich, Leipzig, Düsseldorf, Wilhelmshaven, Stuttgart and Greifswald.

"The Talent Days give us the opportunity to provide additional financial resources to the regional federations to encourage youngsters to get involved in para-sport," DBSJ chairman Lars Pickardt said.

"I would like to thank J P Morgan for the generous support and I would like to thank everyone involved in the implementation of the Talent Days on site."
