Tickets have been available to purchase online since March 20 and these can now be collected from one of the booths, located across the Azerbaijani capital.

Spectators eager to ensure they are a part of the first-ever continental Games in Europe, due to take place from June 12 to June 28 this year, can also buy tickets from one of eight convenient spots in the city, including Park Bulvar, 28 Mall, and Metro Park.

Ilham Aliyev, the President of Azerbaijan, was the first to exchange his online purchase confirmation for his ticket at the the Baku Expo Centre.

Baku 2015 held an event in Park Bulvar to mark the launch, which was attended by Celebrity Ambassadors including actor Jabir Imanov, Eurovision winner Eldar Gasimov, entertainer Bahram Bagirzade, and television presenter Nuran Huseynov.

The launch featured live music and entertainment, and was also attended by the two Baku 2015 mascots, Jeyran and Nar.

"The launch of ticket sales in outlets across the city is an important step in increasing anticipation for the Baku 2015 European Games," Azerbaijan's Minister of Youth and Sports and Baku 2015 chief executive Azad Rahimov said.

"Our ticketing policy is part of our commitment to staging an event that all Azerbaijanis will enjoy.

"To ensure this, we have made access to tickets as convenient and affordable as possible."

Three further ticketing booths are due to open on April 18, at the Neftchilar, Ehmedli and Fountain Square McDonald's restaurants, to be followed by a booth at Tofiq Bahramov Stadium on May 15.

Adult tickets for sport sessions will range between AZN2 (£1.20/$1.90/€1.70) and AZN5 (£3/$4.70/€4.30), according to the competition round, preliminary or final, seat category and venue.

Admission for children is free at most venues, as the Organising Committee bids to ensure full stadiums and a vibrant atmosphere for the Games.
