Michèle George, on board her horse Rainman, claimed double gold in the women's equestrian individual championship test grade IV and the individual freestyle test grade IV, while Belgium's other gold went to Marieke Vervoort, who won the T52 100 metres in a Paralympic record time of 19.69sec.

Vervoort could not quite manage a double of her own as she took silver in the T52 200m, and her nation also won medals in the T46 marathon thanks to Frederic Van den Heede, who sealed bronze, and Wim Decleir managed the same feat in the men's H4 road cycling time trial.

Their other bronze was clinched by the mixed pairs BC3 boccia team of Pieter Cilissen, Kirsten De Laender and Pieter Verlinden after they beat South Korea in the bronze medal match.

Belgium took a team of 42 athletes, who competed across nine different sports, to London 2012 and Kazimirowski will be charged with attempting to improve the medal haul in Rio and he will also be looking to try to better their overall finish of 36th on the medal table.
