Speakers at the CISA Convention in Kigali ©ITGRwanda National Olympic and Sports Committee (RNOSC) President Robert Bayigamba unveiled ambitious plans for an Olympic Hub at the Africa International Sports Convention here today.


Bayigamba confirmed to insidethegames that the venue has been approved by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) but he admitted it is still at an early planning stage.

The Hub is set to incorporate a stadium and an indoor sports arena, as well as shopping malls, facilities for recreation and entertainment and a museum to celebrate and commemorate African sporting stars.

It is hoped that the state-of-the-art venue will also include suitable training facilities as RNOSC strive to claim their first-ever Olympic medal.

RNOSC then revealed a brand new logo as they look to continue to improve their image within the Olympic Movement as they also announced their strategy for the coming years.

"We have discussed it with the relevant authorities and it is not just dreams or theory," Bayigamba said.

"It is a plan that is taking shape and we hope one day we will be able to show you all the finished project.

"There are many white elephants around the world so we wish to build a place that can people can always visit."

Despite the positive news, Bayigamba also alluded to issues within the Rwandan sports Movement, adding that they have "faced many challenges".

They did however expand on an impressive development strategy, dubbed "Generation of Champions", made up of five priority objectives of lead to win, reach the podium, live sport, shine, building success and thousand emotions.

Also present at the conference was outgoing International Association of Athletics Federations President Lamine Diack, who stressed the importance of teamwork as RNOSC divulged their development strategy to those in attendance.

"I am happy to hear the chairperson of the RNOSC talk about these plans," the 82-year-old said.

"There's a need for a strong will to work as a team as we have a problem in Africa of not addressing our failures."
