Siteny Randrianasoloniaiko has been re-elected to serve a second four year term in office ©ANOCSiteny Randrianasoloniako has been unanimously re-elected President of the Madagascan Olympic Committee (COM) for a second four-year term, it has been reported locally.

According to Midi Madagasikara, the official, who also leads the Madagascan Judo Federation, was elected at the COM Elective General Meeting at the Hotel Moringa Toliara in the south-west of the island nation.

Only 13 of the body's 23 members were reportedly present to cast their votes.

Jean-Michel Ramaroson, who stood unsuccessfully against Randrianasoloniaiko in 2010, had been expected to mount a challenge again, but did not ultimately contend the vote.

He has reportedly disputed the outcome although, with a majority of COM members having endorsed the incumbent candidate, the election result appears genuine and Randrianasoloniaiko has continued in the role.

Madagascar first entered the Olympics at Tokyo 1964 and has attended every subsequent Games except for Montreal 1976 and Seoul 1988.

They are yet to win a medal, with one of their best performances coming from sprinter Jean-Louis Ravelomanantsoa, who reached the final of the men's 100 metres at Mexico City 1968, finishing in eighth place.

A seven-strong team competed in the sports of athletics, judo, swimming, weightlifting and wrestling at London 2012, with the best performance coming from under 48kg female 'lifter Nathalia Rakotondramanana, who finished 12th.

In 2015, the team will be continuing their preparations for Rio 2016, while also focusing on two major regional multi-sport events this summer.

These are the Indian Ocean Island Games taking place in Saint Denis, Réunion from August 1 to 8 before the All Africa Games in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo from September 4 to 19.
