August 9 - Victoria Ohuruogu (pictured), the younger sister of women’s 400 metres Olympic champion Christine, claimed that she is aiming to take on her elder sibling at London 2012.

The 17-year-old starlet is currently part of the 39-strong British team flying out to Singapore today to compete in the inaugural Summer Youth Olympic Games and was seen off at Heathrow airport by Christine.

The younger Ohuruogu, along with teenage diving sensation, world champion Tom Daley, is one of Britain’s top medal prospects in Singapore but admitted that competing at the London 2012 Games is always in the back of her mind.

Ohuruogu said: "There are a lot of other championships until then but 2012 is the goal and I’d like to make it into the team.

"I don’t think it would make me nervous if I raced against her [Christine].

"It would be nice for me and my family to see and they’d be really proud."

Ohuruogu’s personal best of 54.17sec may seem some way short of the 49.62 her older sister clocked to win gold at the Beijing 2008 Games but if she maintain her steady progression, Victoria will be a lot closer to her sister in just under two years time when the London Olympic take place.

Victoria added that she is particularly motivated to compete at London 2012 due to the fact that the athletics will take place less than a mile away from where both sisters grew up in Stratford.

She said: "The Olympic Park is only a few minutes away from me.

"I see it when I go past on the bus every day.

"It’s a strange feeling when I pass it."

However, wisely not getting ahead of herself, Ohuruogu added that Singapore - which is due to start on Saturday (August 14) -  is her immediate priority and something that will stand her in good stead in the future.

She said: "It will give me a taste at the big time as it is not just racing in the UK."
