Norway were also victorious in the men's team ski jumping, while France earned gold in the Nordic combined team sprint competition on the penultimate day of action in Sweden.

Johaug has been in sensational form at the Championships having taken gold in both the 15km pursuit and the team relay events, and she added to her haul by 30km cross-country.

Johaug moved away from the field on the second of six laps of the course and cruised to victory in 1 hour 24min 47sec, finishing 52.3 seconds ahead of her relay teammate Marit Bjøergen, who took silver in 1:25.39.

Swedish home favourite Charlotte Kalla took bronze in 1:26.18 ahead of Finland's Kerttu Niskanen.

"I have never been in such good shape as during this Championship," said Johaug afterwards.

There was further success for Norway in the men's team ski jump competition as individual gold medallist Rune Velta joined forces with Andres Bardal, Andres Jacobsen and Andres Fannemel to comfortably win the world title.

The quartet lead at the halfway stage with 429.9 points and extended their advantage in the final round ending on 872.6, to finish ahead of Austria, the silver medallists with 853.2 points.

Poland rounded off the medal positions with 848.1 points from two rounds, while Japan who lied second after the first round of jumps ended outside the medals on 831.2.

The final Nordic combined event of the World Championships saw a shock result as Germany's Sochi 2014 normal hill gold medallist Eric Frenzel and Johannes Rydzek, winner of the individual title at these Championships, were beaten by France's François Braud and Jason Lamy-Chappuis in the large hill sprint event.

The French duo won the ski jumping section of the competition to take an advantage into the cross-country discipline and it proved decisive as Lamy-Chappuis was able to see off Rydzek in a sprint finish, ultimately winning by 2.7 seconds with their finishing time of 38min 31.6sec enough to see off the German challenge.

Norway's Magnus Moan and Havard Klemetsen took bronze in 38:51, ahead of Finland's Ilkka Herola and Jim Haertull.

The Championships are due to draw to a close tomorrow with the men's 50km cross-country event.
