The nation will follow in the footsteps of Rome 2024, which met with German IOC President Thomas Bach earlier this month to discuss its bid as part of the new Olympic and Paralympic bidding process phase that was brought in under Olympic Agenda 2020.

Germany is still yet to choose the city it will put forward as its potential candidate in the race for the 2024 Summer Games when it selects either Berlin or Hamburg on March 21, but the meeting will see it make headway in the process.

"We want to know how the Agenda 2020 affects an application procedure for Olympic Games," said Bernhard Schwank, the DOSB's director for international relations.

Surveys are currently being carried out in both Berlin and Hamburg to gauge public reception to potentially hosting the Olympics and Paralympics, with the results of these scheduled to be published on March 15.

"We are on the final stretch of the decision," Alfons Hörmann, President of the DOSB, said.

"It may be that from the surveys [public opinion] is somewhat noticeable, but it can also be the other way around."

Germany's chosen bidding city will be joined in the race for the 2024 Games by Boston and Rome, which are the only official contenders to date.

Other potential bids could come from Paris, Baku, Doha, Istanbul, Budapest and either Pretoria or Gauteng Province in South Africa.

The deadline for submitting bids is September 15 and the IOC is due to choose the host city at its 2017 Session in the Peruvian capital of Lima.
