The 24-year old finished with a total of 94.82 points, which proved enough to beat American duo Ashley Caldwell, who was 1.67 adrift, and current overall leader Kiley McKinnon.

Recently crowd world champion Laura Peel of Australia looked to be on her way to another win at the Krylatskoye Sports Centre on the edge of the city centre after excellent jumps in both her opening rounds, but a poor last effort saw meant she was sixth.

The result means McKinnon now only needs a sixth-place finish in the final event in Minsk, Belarus, on March 1 to become the first American woman to win the aerials title since 1998 after she stretched her advantage over Scott to 63 points.

Scott kept under the radar for the majority of the competition, qualifying for the super final in fourth place but it was here where she demonstrated her prowess in the air, and although Russia's Liubov Nikitina did not manage to clinch a spot on the podium, the 16-year old can be immensely proud after she came fourth.

In the men's event, American Mac Bohonnon claimed his second successive aerials World Cup victory with a superb performance which gave him 123.08 points, 0.46 ahead of home favourite Ilya Burov, while Belarusian world bronze medallist Maxim Gustik was third.

Burov had laid down a marker in the first final with the highest score of the night but he could not quite follow it up when it really mattered as Bohonnon took only the fourth top-three finish of his short career.

Bohonnon's victory sees him move 29 points behind Chinese world champion Qi Guangpu, who did not compete in Moscow.

The event itself was witnessed by a raucous Russian crowd who packed out the arena to provide one of the more memorable World Cup competitions of the season, although the next one in Belarus is set to be an intriguing affair as both overall titles will be decided.
