It is thought that the new system would avoid the need for a lengthy explanation to IOC members of the voting procedure, as necessitated with the current boxes.

The new system should represent a good promotional opportunity for the IOC's TOP sponsor Samsung, which supplies the IOC with wireless communications and computing equipment under the terms of its deal.

Christophe De Kepper, the IOC's director general, signalled the impending move on the second day of this week's Session in Monaco, informing IOC members prior to Lima's victory over Helsinki in the contest for hosting rights to the 2017 Session, "This might be the last time we use these voting boxes."

De Kepper said the IOC was "analysing" a new way of voting in future.

Insidethegames understands that the timing of the new system's introduction hinges largely on an independent validation process to ensure it is foolproof and completely secure.

It remains to be seen if the new system will obviate the traditional IOC test vote, conducted to ensure that all is in order before the real voting starts.

At this week's Session, Wonder Woman stunned watching media by cruising to victory over Superman in a race for IOC Superhero rights.
