The 19-year-old was arguably the biggest star of the Winter Olympics in Vancouver and she will travel to California to receive the "Proud Korean Award" from the Korean American Leadership Foundation at a special ceremony tomorrow. 

The decision to call it "Yu-na Day" was officially ratified after Los Angeles City Council unanimously passed a resolution last Tuesday (August 3).

It was the idea of Los Angeles Councilman Herb Wesson and Tom LaBonge, who claimed it would be an appropriate way to mark the contribution of the Korean community in the city.  
 
During her trip to Los Angeles, Kim will visit the city’s local Korean community, the largest in the United States.

She will also donate a pair of skates to Los Angeles, for display at LA City Hall.

Kim will also be helping promote Pyeongchang's campaign to host the 2018 Olympics and Paralympics, which is their leading ambassador.
 
Yang-ho Cho, the chairman and chief executive of  Pyeongchang 2018, said: "Yu-na Kim’s remarkable sporting achievements are a great source of pride for everyone in South Korea.

"As a Bid Committee, we are delighted that she has been honoured by the city of Los Angeles and, as Chairman of Korean Air, I am very proud that we have supported her throughout her career and that she is receiving such amazing recognition.

"It is a privilege to try and help Yu-na realise her dream to perform at an Olympic Winter Games in her home country of Korea."
