The player, who competed at last year's World Championships in Puebla, Mexico, received 82 per cent of the vote at elections held at the Olympic Africa Centre in Lobamba, in which 39 athletes participated.

Cyclists William Kelly and Morgan Rudd were the two candidates to miss out.

Nsibandze, who addressed all the athletes before any votes were cast, will now act as spokesperson for athletes in Swaziland, sitting on SOCGA's Board of Directors in order to make recommendations on their behalf.

The Commission will also have votes at the Annual General Meeting.

Among those present was SOCGA secretary general Muriel Hofer and vice-president Adam Mthethwa, with each offering their congratulations and remarking "how great it was to see such a big turnout".

"It painted a bright picture of athletes'stepping up and engaging with sport in Swaziland in order to move forward," it was added.

Swaziland, which achieved independence from Great Britain in 1968, has never won an Olympic medal but has earned four at Commonwealth Games level, three in boxing and one in athletics.

But simply having a functioning representative body for athletes is a major step forward, with Association of National Olympic Committee Athletes' Commission chair, Barbara Kendall having told insidethegames that African NOCs have the lowest percentage of such bodies out of any of the five continental federations.
