Hundreds of principals from schools in Ecuador are set to participate in sport-specific exercise events over the next two weeks as the Ecuador Olympic Committee and Ministry of Education push the values of Olympism.
It brought together 200 principals from the Millenio Education Units (EMU) and was part of the National Olympic Committee's agreement with the Department of Education to provide physical education teachers training in Olympic philosophy.
"The concept of the agreement is that we can implement materials that teachers know in daily teaching hours true Olympic values and philosophy, and that these in turn are transmitted to students in schools and colleges where they collaborate," Carlos Manzur, President of the Ecuadorian Olympic Academy, said during the signing of the agreement in October.
"The Ministry of Education, through the monitors to prepare the Olympic Academy, may teach Olympic philosophy, sports and other subjects to their students."
Manzur was involved in the opening event on Friday where he conducted various recreational activities, closing with a discussion of Olympism, alongside representatives of the Ecuador Olympic Committee, Hernan Velez, Alfredo and Ernesto Ron Recalde.
A second event is due to be held from November 14until 16 where 200 principals from across the nation are expected to participate in similar activities.
