Their most successful Paralympics was at Vancouver 2010, where they won three gold medals.

Sochi 2014 Winter Paralympic coaches took several awards, including Joe Rea, who orchestrated the Canadian wheelchair curling teams third successive gold medal, following previous victories at Turin 2006 and Vancouver 2010.

Lasse Ericsson, trainer of Para-Alpine skier Caleb Brousseau and Para Nordic skiing and biathlon coach, Kaspar Wirz, were also recognised, along with summer Paralympic coaches from cycling, equestrian and wheelchair basketball.

"On behalf of the Canadian Paralympic Committee, our congratulations to all coaches honored tonight," said Catherine Gosselin-Després, Executive Director, Sport at the Canadian Paralympic Committee.

"Coaches are the backbone of our sport system and often go unnoticed for all the work that goes into producing world-class athletes.

"It is wonderful to see our Sochi 2014 Paralympic Games medallist coaches so well represented here along with several of our leading summer sports, which bodes well for upcoming Summer Games in Toronto and Rio."
