Jiří Kejval (left), President of the Czech Olympic Committee, and Michael Vesper (right), general director of the German Olympic Committee, attended the meeting ©Czech Olympic CommitteeThe Olympic Committees of the Czech Republic and Germany have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation, focusing on the exchange of experience and know-how, as well as projects supporting youth sports and the training of coaches.

The one-day meeting in Prague was attended by general director of the German Olympic Committee, Michael Vesper, and President of the Czech Olympic Committee, Jiří Kejval. 

The Memorandum of Cooperation is valid for an indefinite period from today. 

"According to statistics from the European Union, 50 per cent of the population in Germany regularly engages in sport, whilst here in the Czech Republic the figure is a third," said Kejval. 

"We must do something to improve this situation, and the projects of our neighbour promoting a healthy lifestyle will be a major source of inspiration for us."

The Czech Olympic Committee has a long-term goal of strengthening its position in sports diplomacy.

"The German Olympic Committee associates almost 28 million members, and it is a strong player not just in the field of sports diplomacy," added chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Czech Olympic Committee, Roman Kumpošt.

"I am happy that we are an equal partner for the Germans and one with which they intend to actively cooperate."
